Ulrich Weber

Trumpet, flugelhorn

born in Bad Lausick (Saxony) in 1956, he played in several
rock and pop formations in and around Leipzig between 1968
and 1977. Since 1978, he lives in Berlin. Starting 1979, he studied guided
by the jazz trumpeter Hans-Joachim Graswurm in Berlin. At this time, he has his
first meetings with Manfred Schulze, one of the pioneers of improvised music in the GDR.
This way, he was able to participate in workshop instrumentations of leading jazz and improvisation
musicians of the GDR. From 1980 to 1985 he was a member of the Sächsisches Bläser Quartett/ Quintett
(Saxonian Brass Quartet/ Quintet) which only dealt with "classic music literature". He played in numerous
groups that contributed to the development of jazz in the GDR, amongst others the Manfred-Schulze-
Formation, Berliner Improvisations-Trio/ Quartett, Manfred Schulze Bläser Quintett. He went on tour
repeatedly as a soloist as well as in national/ international groups and he played at national and international
festivals. He has participated in broadcast, theater and recording productions.
